Canadian high school principals try to use cell phone jammer

Principal Steve Gray of Port Hardy Secondary School on Vancouver Island, who bought the signal jammer from an online vendor in China, said he had to prove something since children were still using their phones despite the cell phone ban at school.

While the experiment was short-lived, the controversy speaks to the growing problem in schools, especially high schools, of the rampant use of cell phones during school hours.

Donnelly also notes that controlling devices is important because they can be a mechanism for everything from cyber bullying to passing responses to a test.

So the problem is not only educating children about the proper use of cell phones and other technological devices, but also about making sure parents understand the rules at their children’s school, she said.

Why use the gsm jammer?

“We note what we perceive as a growing negative impact of cell phone use on student learning and particularly on student engagement,” said Steve Gough, principal at Comstock Park High School. “Cell phones can be a powerful tool to help people access information, but they can also be a powerful distraction.”

College students are quite optimistic about using smartphones and laptops in class and believe that they can aid learning and are critical to their safety, so they should be left at all times. And when a cell phone rings in class, students prefer to be ignored by instructors, joyfully wielding it through humor, or talking to the student privately after class. In contrast, most of the interviewed US teachers had specific rules in their curricula for using all digital devices in class with penalties for rule violations2. Surprisingly popular were the outright bans on student phones and laptops.

Too many students use their cell phones to talk, visit, and verify what is taught in the classroom. We need to correct this now. Cell phones can be a great learning tool, but parents must set the law on how and when to use them.

Officials at the United States Department of State are still trying other ways to fix the cell phone problem. DOC is working with a Maryland-based company on a $ 1.5 million contract to install a system that “allows authorized calls to pass but blocks others in a precisely defined target area.” That system will be installed at the end of the month.

If cell phone jammer is not properly regulated, similar to bi-directional amplifiers (BDAs), we will experience a more severe uncontrollable disorder that has led the industry to pursue the overabundance of interfering signals emitted by FCC approved devices. It’s easy to inadvertently create a blocker. Rotate the gain control to the maximum on both the uplink and downlink amplifier and disregard the isolation between the redistribution antenna system and the donor. The level of white noise generated by this device is at least as damaging and dangerous to public safety radio systems as any interference device designed so far. Typically, BDAs are installed without proper supervision and maximum gain is used to provide the most coverage, while this two-way amplifier is unknowingly nothing more than a broadband generator radiating to an outside antenna.
